FAKE NEWS is NO NEWS

Fake news is simply news that is false, not real, or a twisted version of the truth. Media can be deceiving because it is littered with fake news and can be created by anyone, which is why it is very important to identify facts from lies.

It is important to know what is true from false because fake news can damage reputations and spread harmful rumors. Therefore, knowing the difference between real and fake news lessens publicity for these creators. Understanding what is true may not be immediately revealed, but there are some suggestions to consider when categorizing news. Mental notes to make while reviewing stories in the media are looking into the source, author, and date, as well as going beyond one location of information and doing further research.

Although I do not often spend much time seeking the tiny details of stories, I think that there are methods that are beneficial to pinpoint fake news.

When you examine the source, you may be able to find out its establishment as a company or website. This can help because you will be able to see if it is widely trusted. Another note to make while reviewing news is to look into the author. Looking into the author can be helpful because authors may be well known and dependable or they may be irrelevant to media with a fake identity. Another factor to consider and review to comprehend the credibility of a news article or "facts" in media is to check the date which the document discusses. If the file references points from the far past, these points are no longer important or no longer apply in a story. Also, if the events mentioned in the news are not current, they do not relate to a present situation. Doing research on the source, author, and date of a piece of media are can help to decipher whether or not news is fake because you can then discern trustworthy stories in the media.

Another thing which can be done is to do further research beyond the site of what may be fake news. By doing so, you can find more information on the topic and discover commonalities between sources. When data is compared from different sources, it is easier to recognize what is consistent which makes uncovering fake news easier.

Fake news can alter major and well known stories, but it can also be found in minor areas such as ads. For example, advertisements may use false, eye-catching information to immediately grab people's attention. This can be found in an ad released during the time of the United State's presidential election which says that sending texts to a phone number is an alternate option to vote. In reality, this ad is a lie to make people think that they voted so that the real survey data is inaccurate and particular numbers would be lessened. This can be identified as fake news because when further research is done you can find that the valid way to vote is by going to a voting location in person.

There are many ways in which you can distinguish fake news and prevent negative and false stories from being successful, by doing simple or complex research.
