Knock The Vote 2018
An American organization called "Knock The Vote" has released a commercial in regards to the issue that is young people voting. During times of election, there is a lack of participation of young people voting which means that they are unable to represent and voice themselves.
This video shown all around the United States addresses this problem straightforwardly. To show the urgency of the problem, the video is very honest and includes the faults of young people and what they can do to change their situation. The main error presented in the video is that young people are unsatisfied with possible changes resulting in their complaints, but they are not doing all that they can to contribute in elections. This ad encourages this targeted group of people to vote so that they can change the odds of elections rather than only speaking of what they do not like.
When I first viewed the ad, I initially thought that the people speaking in the video were too harsh and only highlighting their benefits or disregarding the issues of young people. I thought this because the people speak about how our problems are somewhat irrelevant to them, but that they are satisfied with the results of elections. As the commercial progresses, I recognized it as something which shares a positive message containing wisdom and advise. I think that the video is beneficial for young people to see because they are being shown that their complaining does not have potential to make change, but voting does.
Also, the video says that those who vote help to determine the circumstances of their issues and situations as well as those of young people. Those who vote are those who decide the outcome of elections, so when older adults are voting, they choose the outcomes for situations which are more closely related to young people.
This ad is effective in persuading youth of America to vote for various reasons. The ad shows that making complaints differs from taking action and that the people voting do not highly consider or comprehend the situations regarding young people. Youth of America will be persuaded to vote because the video can help them understand that they cannot watch their issues unfold without doing anything to solve the problem, and that their needs will be met if they take action and vote.

ReplyDeleteI definitely feel that the ad was great at portraying its message as well. In my opinion, I kind of liked the feel of the tough love that the senior citizens in the video had given to the youth audience. It was effective at making me want to go vote, although I am still a minor. I also agree with your statement about some people being upset and complaining while they contradict themselves by not doing anything about it. Along with the senior citizens, I feel that you did a great job of putting a spark in the youth’s minds as well!
ReplyDeleteMy blog described how I found the video very offensive, but it changed my thinking as I read through the views of other people. All these views made me understand the message was intended to encourage young people to vote. I do not think that all teenagers unaware and do not care to vote. I liked how you explained that the video was meant to show the urgency of the problem, the video is very honest and includes the faults of young people and what they can do to change their situation. Overall, this gave me a better understanding of the ad and what it's intended message is.
